Math

Some students have difficulty learning math while other students are capable at math but have come upon a stumbling block with a specific type of math concept or process. Our teachers address both situations.

Math is a very complicated subject that requires a multitude of information process skills for mastery. Further, the information processing skills needed to master math facts are different from those needed to master Algebra or Geometry. For the student struggling with math, it is recommended that the student undergo a comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation to identify the factors contributing to the struggles. This can be done through Dr. Taylor’s practice or, if the student has been evaluated through another practice, that data can be reviewed. The assessment information will be used to establish an intervention plan specific to the student’s needs.

Sometimes, a student who is generally capable at math encounters new material that is confusing. Our teachers are available for short-term tutoring to help the student master the new material. We have teachers capable of tutoring all levels on math, including Calculus.

Students may struggle with math for a variety of reasons: weaknesses in foundational skills, understanding math concepts and procedures, and/or anxiety about learning math in general.

Our program is designed to:

  • Engage students in actively constructing mathematical concepts
  • Explore math concepts using a multisensory approach
  • Help students understand the language of math
  • Utilize clear, systematic instruction
